Tim Brook's quest for back-to-back Toyota 86 Racing Series titles has begun in style.
The Oran Park driver steered his McLaren Real Estate Toyota 86 car to round one victory at Phillip Island on the weekend.
Brook qualified in pole position before winning race one on Saturday.
He then claimed two second places in Sunday's two races to finish the round in top spot.
Brook enjoyed a weekend long battle with 2007 Supercars champion and three-time Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander, who made a cameo appearance in Phillip Island.
The two drivers were almost inseparable on track throughout the three race, with Brook holding the upper hand on the results sheet.
Brook said it was a "fantastic way" to start his title defence.
"After the season launch, we felt pretty comfortable with car heading into the opening round," he said.
"I knew I needed to qualify near the front, but to claim pole position and win the opening race was the perfect way to start the season.
"To back that up with two more podiums and leave Phillip Island with the championship lead is incredible."
Brook leads the standings with 280 points after one round.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series next heads to the streets of Townsville for round two in early July.
