Prepare to check your pockets and dig deep for a worthy cause this month.

The Salvation Army is again calling on Macarthur residents to dig deep and support the Red Shield Doorknock Appeal, which will be held on May 25 and 26.

Close to 100 volunteers will be out in force across the region, knocking on doors and rattling tins in a bid to raise funds for the Salvos.

However, Macarthur Salvation Army's Lieutenant Nicola Poore said the Salvos were still looking for more people to lend a hand.

"We are always after more help to meet the extraordinary needs in Macarthur. It's always hard to knock on everyone's door across the region, but we do as much as we can with the resources we have," she said.

"The more local volunteers we can recruit, the better."

We are living in an era where people want to give, they want to make a difference.

Lieutenant Poore said it was "hugely rewarding" to volunteer with Salvos.

"We are living in an era where people want to give, they want to make a difference," she said.

"It is appreciated if people can give up even two hours to help out."

Lieutenant Poore said the Macarthur corps hoped to raise more than $100,000. She said money raised would support projects and services within Macarthur and across Australia.

"It will help fund local services such as financially counselling and mental health counselling. It will also go towards a national emergency relief effort."
