Important new equipment has been installed at Woolworths Tahmoor.

Residents will now have access to an automated external defibrillator (AED) to assist in the case of a sudden cardiac arrest.

The installation is part of a priority roll-out program at rural and regional Woolworths stores.

The AED is designed to be used by anyone, with clear step-by-step voice instructions to guide residents through the process.

Woolworths Tahmoor store manager Kelly Manning said she was pleased to have the defibrillator installed in her store.

"You never know when a sudden cardiac arrest might strike and in the unfortunate event that it does, having the local community able to access this treatment, could help to save lives," she said.

"The best medical advice tells us that access to an AED early on can greatly increase the chance of survival."
