Picton's Victoria Bridge will be closed for several hours on weekdays over the coming weeks due to essential works being undertaken.
A Transport for NSW spokesman said the work would include installing temporary steel supports below the bridge and across the top connecting both trusses.
"This work is important for the structural integrity of the bridge and will require daytime closures to allow for work to be carried out," he said.
Work will be carried out on weekdays from Monday, August 26 until Friday, October 4 between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.
The bridge will be closed to traffic from 9.30am to 2.30pm on weekdays during this time period.
A detour will be in place during the bridge closures via Menangle and Argyle streets and Remembrance Driveway.
Motorists should expect minor delays when the detour is in place.
During the other work hours, intermittent stop/slow traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place.
Motorists are advised to allow up to five minutes of additional travel time, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
