The veteran French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has announced that his Haute Couture show next week in Paris will be his last.
In a characteristically light-hearted video posted on Twitter on Friday, the designer was filmed talking on his mobile, revealing that although January 22 would be his last fashion show, he had "a new concept" for his creative endeavours.
The show would also celebrate 50 years of his career, he said in the surprise announcement.
The taboo-breaking designer, who was born on the outskirts of Paris, changed the French fashion landscape with his eccentric creations.
His talent was first recognised by the legendary Pierre Cardin, who employed him as an assistant in 1970.
Gaultier brought out his own line of clothing at just 24 years old and two years later founded his own fashion house.
His success also extended to perfumes.
