The Camden Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is back this year with something extra for Macarthur's little ones.

Children as young as six can now join in on the TRYathlon fun, with the new Splash and Dash section of the event.

Splash and Dash is designed for kids who are eager to get involved in the TRYathlon but cannot compete in the older age division.

It will see participants complete a 75-metre pool swim followed by a 500-metre run before crossing the finish line.

Camden mayor Theresa Fedeli said the new category was a fantastic entry point for kids into the full Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.

"It is great to see the younger kids have an opportunity to give something new a try," Cr Fedeli said.

"It's so important for the whole family to stay fit and healthy throughout their lives and this is a chance for parents to teach their kids the importance of eating well and exercising at an early age.

"We had more than 700 participants last year and I encourage families to get their kids involved with this world-class event right in the heart of Camden."

The TRYathlon will be held on Sunday, March 1 at Onslow Oval with check-in kicking off at 6.30am for an 8.30am start.

Registrations are still open for children aged six to 15 years, with categories including:

  • A swim in Camden War Memorial Pool - 75 metres for participants aged six to 10 years and 15 metres for participants aged 11 to 15 years;
  • A cycle through closed suburban streets - three kilometres for seven to 10 years and six kilometres for 11 to 15 years; and
  • A run through the finish arch at Onslow Oval - 500 metres for six to 10 years and one kilometre for 11 to 15 years.

All participants receive a reward.

The council will also host the second annual Camden Healthy Living Expo at Onslow Oval in conjunction with the TRYathlon.

This will give residents the opportunity to meet local businesses and connect with sport and recreational opportunities available in Camden, as well as learn about healthy lifestyles, food and drink.

Camden will again host the event - which encourages children aged six to 15 years of age to try something new, have a go and enjoy being physically active - in 2021.
