Man charged after allegedly assaulting police in Campbelltown

A man will face several charges in court after allegedly being found with a pistol and knife in Campbelltown yesterday.

Campbelltown police were conducting a proactive crime operation on Broughton Street about 7.20pm yesterday when they spoke to a 30-year-old man.

Following enquiries, the officers conducted a search.

They allegedly found a pistol and a knife inside a bag he was carrying.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

While there, he allegedly became violent towards the officers.

He was restrained after a short struggle.

The man was charged with possession of an unauthorised pistol, custody of a knife in a public place and three counts of assaulting police.

He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today.
