Lane honours late Picton businessman John Corbett

Wollondilly Council has named a Picton lane in honour of the late John Corbett

The well-known businessman and property developer died in a tragic light aircraft crash near Braidwood last year.

Mr Corbett established and managed the Picton Mall and a number of other development sites in the area.

Wollondilly mayor Robert Khan was friends with Mr Corbett for more than 40 years.

He was proud to reveal the tribute to Mr Corbett's immediate family at the lane naming event on the weekend.

"The Corbett family has been an important part of Picton and the Wollondilly community for over 30 years," Cr Khan said.

"The naming of the laneway right next to the Picton Mall is a fitting way to remember the late John Corbett and honour such a well-known local business family."

Mr Corbett was known as a passionate advocate for the economic development of the shire.

Cr Khan told the Advertiser last year that his mate was "very gruff but good-hearted".

"John would tell you his opinion, whether you liked it or not," he said.

"We caught up every two weeks and would talk a lot. He had some good ideas for Picton.

"The Picton community will really miss him."

Mr Corbett is mourned by his wife Renelle and their children Lucy and Hugh.
