Camden Meals on Wheels has been recognised by Meals on Wheels NSW for its Book Bus program.
The team at Camden Meals on Wheels was awarded the Innovation Award for 2020 - this is the third time the team has been selected as the recipient of the award since 2013.
The innovation award recognised the work the local organisation has done to ensure social connections were maintained during the time of COVID.
Camden Meals on Wheels community program coordinator Robyn Hartley said the Book Bus allowed the team to continue to check on the health and welfare of their clients, who would normally have been able to engage in a variety of social events and activities with Meals on Wheels.
"We were aware during lockdown that facilities such as libraries, bookstores and second hand stores were all shut down - all at a time when people, especially our elderly clients were spending more time in their homes than ever before," she said.
Camden Meals on Wheels manager Gary de Jong said while their focus was helping the elderly community of Camden, their impact went much further.
"We also help families, giving them a sense of security and comfort that their loved ones are being cared for," he said.
"We provide a meal and so much more, and the Book Bus has been a great initiative to that has allowed Camden Meals on Wheels to continue to adapt services to meet community needs."
Camden Meals on Wheels is a community based not for profit organisation that has been providing the community of Camden with 'more than just a meal' for more than 50 years.
Camden Meals on Wheels is located in Little Street, Camden.
