Wollondily Matters with Robert Khan: Festive Season

The festive season is a wonderful time of year, and it is great to see the residents of the Shire get into the holiday spirit. I am pleased to announce Council's sponsorship towards a number of Christmas events and projects in Wollondilly including carols, a movie night and 'lighting up' some of our towns and villages.

Local events are a lot of fun and help bring our community together. I hope these events and projects can bring a little Christmas cheer to our community after a challenging year.

It's great to see entries coming in from residents and businesses for the Wollondilly Annual Christmas Lights competition. The Christmas Lights competition has been running in Wollondilly for more than 20 years! This is a perfect opportunity to take some time out to enjoy decorating your house and preparing for the holiday season. To enter the competition, visit Council's website.

We also have the Christmas in the Gardens event at the Picton Botanic Gardens happening on Friday 11 December. There will be twilight markets, food stalls, entertainment and there'll even be an opportunity to grab a photo with Santa (socially distanced of course).

If you have been out and about in the Shire lately, you may have noticed the new Christmas banners that have been installed throughout some of our towns and villages. The banners are brand new this year and look great!

Local businesses can get into the festive spirit by downloading Council's Love the Dilly toolkit. It includes a selection of assets such as posters for your shopfront window, social banners and images for your Facebook and Instagram accounts and even a Zoom background for your next online meeting. When you are doing your Christmas shopping, please consider buying local. Wollondilly has a great selection of shops, selling everything from homewares, gifts, produce and essential items. If you're not sure what to buy, perhaps you could consider a gift voucher.

Most importantly though, I hope you can look forward to some time out or spending time with your loved ones during this great time of the year.
