Happy New Year to everyone in the Wollondilly Shire! I hope you all had a chance to rest and unwind during the festive season.
The Covid-19 restrictions which were introduced in response to the recent Northern Beaches and Berala clusters meant many of us had to adjust our plans. I trust you were able to get out in the beautiful Wollondilly or within NSW and enjoy some of the attractions in our own back yard.
This year's Australia Day Celebrations in Wollondilly will also be a little different, as we are unable to gather as we have in previous years.
An Australia Day Citizenship and Awards Ceremony will still be held in the Picton Botanic Gardens, but this will be a ticketed event. Tickets are available on Council's website with a limit of 300 tickets, so you will need to get online early to secure your ticket!
The ceremony will be on Tuesday 26 January 2021 at Picton Botanic Gardens - Regreme Road Picton (9am - 11.30am) and will include a Flag Parade, Pipe Band, and Aboriginal Welcome to Country.
If you're unable to secure one of the limited tickets you can still be involved - we will be streaming the ceremony live on Facebook.
Council will also be holding some competitions and have some Australia Day online events for everyone to enjoy. You will also be able to listen to our interview with the Australia Day Ambassador, Professor Neil Weste and sing along with Australia's National Anthem: Advance Australia Fair.
Have a look at Council's website for more information www.wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/events-and-community/annual-events/australia-day/
Have a great start to 2021!
Robert Khan - Mayor of Wollondilly
