Oran Park drivers must take note of a school zone implemented around the newly built Barramurra Public School, formerly known as Catherine Field Public School.
A Transport for NSW spokesman said the new school zone would help protect children on their way to and from school at times and places where they are often present in high numbers.
"Transport for NSW will install a 40km/h school along a 193 metres section of O'Keefe Drive, a 28 metre stretch of Banfield Drive as well as a 180 metre section of Battersby Avenue," the spokesman said.
"In general, 40 km/h school zones are provided on roads with an active direct access point from the school and are designed to reduce the risk and potential severity of a crash."
The new school zone signs and road markings were installed on Monday, January 18.
The new 40km/h school zone has already come in to effect and will operate from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days.
Motorists are reminded to drive to the sign posted speed limit at all times for the safety of all road users.
