After a decade of making music, Menangle band the The Rubens have finally achieved their first ARIA number one album.

Their fourth release, 0202, topped the ARIA album charts on Friday after a strong push in its opening week.

The released a statement sharing their excitement at the news.

"We are absolutely thrilled to take out number one on our fourth album, the first time to land the position for us," the band said.

"We uploaded our first track on Triple J Unearthed 10 years ago and to be still doing what we love and connecting with fans all over the world means so much to us, especially after such a tough year for our industry as a whole.

"To Ivy League Records/Mushroom, Grow Yourself Up and the rest of our team, thanks for your hard work and support.

"To our families, absolute rocks. To our fans old and new, thank you for coming on our journey and getting behind us. We cannot wait to hit the road to share the new album live."

Ivy League Records A&R director Marihuzka Cornelius congratulated the band on their debut top spot.

"This is such an incredible achievement and one that feels extra sweet as it comes on the band's fourth record," she said.

"To stay at the top of your game for a decade is no mean feat and it is all due to The Rubens' incredible ability to grow, experiment and embrace the new.

"The great, late Pete Lusty signed the band back in 2011 and we know he is celebrating this with us right now, double scotch in hand. This one's for him."

Lead singer Sam Margin told the Advertiser last week that the number one would "mean the world" to the band.

"It would be a very, very nice thing to happen this far into our career," he said.

"We've had twos and threes, but getting a number one would be hugely validating. It would be a bit of a party, that's for sure."

0202 was recorded entirely at bassist Will Zeglis' Camden bunker studio, and produced by the band themselves.

It features the singles Live in Life (an ARIA Award nominee), Heavy Weather, Time of My Life and Masterpiece.

"I feel like Live in Life having so much success early on freed us up a little to continue writing music in that vein," Margin said.

"The way we made the album is fluid and fun, no rushing it, and you can hear that.

"It feels like the album makes sense to me, so hopefully that translates through. Having a few songs on the radio is a big help too."

The Rubens' 0202 is available now everywhere you buy your music.
