Eight Schools in Camden are one step closer to new and improved facilities.

The new upgrades have been announced as part of the NSW Government's $120 million Metro Renewal Program.

Camden Peter Sidgreaves MP welcomed the news that several projects had been funded.

"I'm delighted that these projects has been included in the program," Mr Sidgreaves said.

"This investment by the Coalition Government is essential for our students, so that they can thrive in a great learning environment, no matter where they live or what their circumstances may be.

"Delivery of these projects will be undertaken in the next 18 months as part of the NSW Government's economic stimulus package for NSW schools."

Since the announcement of the Metro Renewal Program in November last year, schools have been invited to apply for renewal projects to improve their school facilities.

Projects may include new and upgraded covered outdoor learning areas, science facilities, toilet blocks, administration buildings and canteens.

The following schools have received funding:

  • Camden South Public School - $125,586.66
  • Cobbitty Public School - $298,500
  • Elderslie High School - $850,000
  • Elderslie Public School - $50,000
  • Elizabeth Macarthur High School - $750,000
  • Gledswood Hills Public School - $115,500
  • Mount Annan High School - $170,000
  • Oran Park Public School - $115,500

The Metro Renewal Program will provide a government co-contribution of between 50 to 80 per cent for school infrastructure improvements to high priority schools in metropolitan areas.

Education minister Sarah Mitchell said the projects at these schools were part of the NSW Government's stimulus program and the state's COVID-19 Recovery Plan.

"I'm pleased that we are continuing our record investment in school infrastructure, including these projects in Camden," she said.

"The funding will directly benefit local communities and support hundreds of jobs in metro NSW.

"This program is part of the NSW Government's economic stimulus response to the pandemic, and will deliver educational benefits, community benefits and economic benefits as communities continue to recover."
