Rewind to this time last year and I might have known one or two people who had COVID-19. Now, it seems every other person has had it or knows someone who has had it.
As I get older, the same can be said for cancer. Growing up, I heard of maybe one or two people who battled this horrible disease. Now, it seems like I can't talk to someone without them mentioning they know someone who has it. Numbers back that up. The Cancer Council say one in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85.
It makes fundraising vitally important to support the Cancer Council's research, support programs and prevention campaigns.
One of their major fundraising events is the Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. People can register to host an event in May or June with every cuppa making a difference to those impacted by cancer.
What better way to catch up with friends you haven't seen for awhile because of the pandemic?
You can register to receive your free host kit which gives you access to great tips, tools and ideas to help make raising funds and you can host the event wherever you like - at home, the park or even virtually.
But can hosting one event really help? The short answer is, yes.
Thanks to research funded by Australia's Biggest Morning Tea hosts, Australia is on track to be the first country to eliminate cervical cancer by as early as 2028.
The funding also goes to giving people impacted cancer practical and emotional support via the Cancer Council's 13 11 20 information and support service.
So what are you waiting for? Send a message on the family group chat and create an event on social media and get the ball rolling.
The official day was Thursday, May 19 - but it's not too late. You can host anytime that suits in May or June.
