NORSKE Skog workers could return to work as early as Tuesday as they continue to try to come to terms with the deaths of two colleagues.
Tributes continue to flow for Lyndon Quinlivan and Ben Pascall following Thursday’s accident at the Ettamogah paper mill.
A 22-year-old contractor remains in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at Albury hospital after being overcome by gas.
Australian Manufacturing Workers Union organiser Dave Corben said staff had been making appointments with a workplace chaplain and meeting amongst themselves to talk about what happened.
“I think that’s a pretty healthy thing to do,” he said.
“I’ve had quite a number of calls, messages and emails from workers.
“I suppose they’re venting a little bit, asking a few questions.
“I think some people just want to have someone to talk to.”
Mr Corben said a lot of people appeared to be “a little bit lost”, which could be made worse by having spare time on their hands.
“The AMWU will do everything it can to support the workers and make sure it's safe to go back,” he said.
“The investigators need to be do their investigations.
"We need to work out what happened.”
Mr Quinlivan, a father of two, has been remembered by friends as an “amazing man” taken too soon from his family.
People have also paid tribute to Mr Pascall, a talented junior swimmer.
One person remembered him as one of the nicest people they had ever met.
